Radial Lip Force Gauge

Tobar Inc. has added a Radial Lip Force Gauge to its investigation lab. This equipment will provide us with an additional critical parameter in seal development for our customers.

The Radial Lip Force Gauge measures how much pressure is exerted on the shaft by the radial shaft seal. This force affects the oil film between the seal and the shaft during operation. If the force is too low, it can cause oil leakage. If the force is too high, there may not be enough of an oil film or no oil film at all. This will cause extra wear on the seal and shaft, causing premature sealing failure resulting in oil leakage.

With the Radial Lip Force Gauge at our disposal, we can improve upon our failure analysis investigations as well as complete side-by-side comparisons between radial shaft seals.
